HR X2 - 1966
The
HR X2 was a lot different from the HD X2 in so many ways and at the top
of the list was the 186 ci engine which many experts say was the best pre
'86 engine there was! Although only 5 bhp up on the 179 HD, it was
it's flexability that helped make this car so likeable. The carburettors
were a pair of BXCV2's with smaller venturis to give it more economy at
lower speeds and reduced the flooding that was normal for the HD.
The power was now up there with the 225 ci Valiant! There were two
models of HR X2 with the first being the twin carburettor 3 speed and the
the second being the 2 barrel 3 speed with the optional 4 speed which came
midway thru 1967
Some
other options were:
Limited-slip
diff
Low
profile tyres
Power
steering.
Even
though it handled better than the HD X2 which used the same track as the
EH, it was still far short of being called a great handling sports
car.
In
October 1966 Holden gave the HR a safety upgrade which included:
Front
safety belts.
Windscreen
washers.
Reversing
lights.
Sunvisors.
Shatter-proof
interior mirror. |
