have been told Holden dropped the Monaro name with the HZ and it was only
called a GTS sedan.
Statesman
The new
Holden Statesman was rated the best handling large car available in Australia
with it's four wheel disc brakes, RTS suspension and 5.0 V8 it had a package
that was packed with luxury. It was such a great package that the opposition
was a little worried and they had to re think there vehicles. It
came with a plush interior with extra thick seats and sound proofing to
add to the drivers and passengers comfort. Even though it was a big
car for Australian standards it used its size well to give a feeling of
gliding over bumps yet was able to handle the corners when pushed hard,
it was a treat to drive. I owned a Statesman and the only thing I
changed on it was the air filter which I bought an after market unit. It
was larger and less restrictive than the stock unit which gave slightly
improved power and economy with it being able to suck air from all directions
unlike the very narrow passage on the stock item. There is however one
slight drawback, I was able to hear the 5.0 V8 engine a bit more under
hard acceleration but then I actually liked that mild noise.
