Commodore VS


 
VS Commodore 1995
The VS was a refinement of the top selling VR with further developement done to safety and economy.  The V6 was made to run smoother and it had major upgrades from the original unit with power up 17 kW to 147 kW.  The name ECOTEC which stands for Emissions and Consumption Optimisation through TEChnology was used for these engines. The engine block was new as well as lighter and higher compression pistons which pushed there way towards reshaped combustion chambers which all helped to save fuel and increase the power. The engine was now breathing better and the flow of fuel and exhaust gases was increased to produce better figures.  This was what the old Yella Terra heads did to the standard 308 V8's when Brocky used to build his specials. On the outside of the VS had not changed except for some minor details like the front slits being highlighted. The VS was used in racing to great success like the previous models and in 1997 was rewarded with a Bathurst title at the hands of Larry Perkins and Russell Ingal.
